A typical morning in our classroom...

“Help me to do it myself”

Every morning in our school will give the child an opportunity to grow, develop and gain independence in a safe, secure atmosphere. The focus in our classroom is giving the children freedom, independence and choices.

9:30

The children are welcomed into the school

9:30 - 10:00

Children are free to work with any materials in a free play environment to allow them to settle. They are also free to work with the Montessori materials once they have already been introduced to them. We take the role-call during this time.

10.00

Introduce Montessori work to the children, and observe each child.  We introduce numbers, sounds and colours on a daily basis.

10..00 - 11.15

The Children are free to work with Montessori materials, play with the sand tray and water, play in the home corner, make puzzles, paint, colour, build Lego etc. Some days we will also do structured group activities such as Stretch and Grow / Art and Crafts / Gardening/ Cooking / Experiments etc.

Break/Snack time. The Children  collect their snacks (which parents send in ) and sit with friends during break. Break time is another lovely social activity, where children can gain social experiences. We nominate 2 children to be recycling officers each week. They are responsible for collecting the recyclable waste from the children's tables after break.  Chef of the week takes places during Thursday's break time.

Circle Time / Outdoor Play – A prepared group session focusing on a particular topic. Circle time involves story-telling, class news, rhymes, songs, days of the week and weather. At this time half the children go to circle time, and the other half go outside to play. They swop over after approx. 15 minutes.

The children have a structured activity at this time. They get creative in smaller groups. They can chose between art, building, board games, role play, playdoh and many more.

The children wash their hands and sit together for lunch time. A healthy lunch is provided by the school each day. This is a lovely time for children to relax, refuel and chat to their friends and teachers.

Children have another opportunity for free play after they finish their lunch.

Children enjoy a group storybook read by their teacher before they go home.
